Playing with words

A group of us meet online each day to bounce ideas around. There are 2 discussion areas, the 2014 Pushcart Collection and the Objects section of Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein. The discussions get written up and shared online, where else?

I bet some of these are my own, but even so, that is a huge number of glimpses from around the place. I hope I have started some trains of thought and been helpful at some level to others.

Writing is helpful to me. It leaves a trail I can wonder at and chew over. My future interests might or might not be noted here before I am even aware of them.

When I encourage other people to write their own blog...

I mean that I appreciate seeing how a person lays out their thoughts. I like to see the words they choose. Even the spelling mistakes say something and any tiny anomalies of punctuation.

Interaction in person is fleeting and hard to recall, yet a composed creation is another side to a person and is something I happen to get a lot out of. It is easier to mull over and see in the round.

I like the variation in subject choices and the changes over time due to new interests. I like to see the flow of life, not knowing what might happen next.

Disclaimer

I have been adding new blogs a lot recently, but then I often find the blogger writes or does something so contrary to my views that I remove them again. Do I need to be less fussy? Do I have to disinfect everything which appears on my side bar? Does it matter that views I am alarmed by float past on my own blog?

This falls into my category of good problems to have.

Re-reading this is uncomfortable, but rather than delete this post, I think it is important for me to recognise that other people write and discuss all sorts of issues. Chewing them over in real time, in text, with others is what the internet is all about. This difficult process is the basis for understanding of oneself and of others. Understanding does not mean agreeing, why should it? I disagree profoundly with myself and really don't like actions I have taken in the past. I'm not all that thrilled with how I am living my life right now either.

At Quaker discussions views or comments are put forward in turn without the expectation of a direct response. That allows each listener to listen without feeling that their silence means agreement as such. I think I shall try to read with a similar attitude of mind.

So I shall add blogs to my side bar more freely and live and let live a little more. I feel better now.

Sore eyes

I get so uncomfortable reading any blog with white text on a black background. T told me how to  reverse the colours:

Press ctrl/alt/the apple button next to it, then press 8. What a difference! Do the same to reverse the colours back again.

Always Room

There's always room for another blog on my side bar linking thing. It's amazing how many beautiful people there are blogging away often or infrequently.

I was just looking at my books, wondering which one I'm reading at the moment. Then I realised I prefer wriggling, kicking writing hot from the stove of the internet. Until my eyes get a tired sort of feeling and I have spent enough time in the endless vortex. Then I switch to here and now in this very room.

How many mixed metaphors can I put into one post? Sorry for the bad writing!

This will keep me busy

I have found I'm linked to on this site. Obviously I'm pleased as anything. I'm also thrilled to have a whole new list of blogs to search through.

I used to think I only needed to read blogs written by home educators with older children than mine, but over time I realise I pick up so much from blogs by and about people of all ages. It's a sort of browsing, not knowing what I'll learn until I stumble on it.

Over time I need different things too, so I find what I need in unexpected places.

Blogomania

It's like kleptomania, but it is ok. I go from blog to blog and land up somewhere really wonderful. Then I copy and paste it to add to my list. So my daily list of updated blogs is just huge!!! I'm happy.

I'm going to go and count them now....I may be some time.

Finding a format

Some bloggers seem to have found a format they stick to and which is distinctively theirs. I'm still thrashing around and trying this and that. I want to put a photo in each time or even each day, but it isn't happening yet.

Anyone else with a similar state of confusion?

It doesn't help that T takes lovely photos and knows what he is about to take and what with. I wander around the garden mumbling that I don't know what the story is, why should I photograph this and not that.

Maybe I need to simply do mug of coffee garden appreciation and shelve any plans for mixing life out there with life tapping away in here?

When I don't post here very often it means I simply come to my own blog to go and have a look at what is happening on my sidebar! So it's a huge source of inspiration.
