Nour Bishouty - Shubbak 2015
http://www.nourbishouty.com/INSTEAD-OF-A-RESOLUTION
Take a look at this photo. I really like the long line of red rectangles. No, I haven't the faintest idea what I am meant to think. By the way, don't tell me what to think. I need that freedom. The no-words-i-ness of it all. My head is too filled with words already.
What do I like about this?
I think, hmm, that is a straight line, but I enjoy this one.
The reds are all the same, I like that regularity, why is that?
Some are bigger than others, but they are all of a similar type. They fit together.
It is tidy, that makes me happy too.
I have a thing about gallery walls, all that calm space, letting the little rectangles be cherished.
What bothers me about this?
The table of things all jumbled up to the side.
Nowhere to sit and think, standing gives me backache and a jiggly feeling, I'd rather settle somewhere and gaze at this equivalent of a beach.
Where are the people?
Where is the short video of the artist chatting about what scissors she uses to cut out the cloth?
That's the best bit for me, similar to seeing a poet deal with a loud lorry blotting out some of their words, or seeing them smile as they talk to us and reach down to drink from their water. It is the real part of the objects and colours stuck on a wall in a public building.
Anything else?
Nour Bishouty is hoping to take part in this Kickstarter Project. 4 artists will travel on separate cargo ships for the 23 day trip from Vancouver to Shanghai. They will be artists in residence.

Forrester Bess - Icon - A34 crash
Forrester Bess
I don't usually do this. Just seeing the pictures in the article I am linking to has done some strange things to my mind. The pictures are so simple and intense. They remind me of times I spent at an art table maybe 10/12 years ago.
We would go over there and paint whatever needed to be painted. I recognise that need to put things down. Seeing the other man do his painting in his own world was helpful to see. We didn't have to talk to each other or do anything at all in fact. He put his paint right across big sheets of paper with a heavy roller.
I have had to do some writing after seeing these pictures briefly.
Icon
My aunt Caroline's things came to me yesterday, via my brother driving up with a car load. So now I have a small icon. Unreadable script. I shall have to google image various possible scripts to find out which one it is, then type it into google translate using the appropriate keyboard.
When a person is alive their things are around them. The person turns up at family parties and smokes. When they are dead they things arrive in my house, item by item. I can sit on their chair, stir my soup with their wooden spoon and look cautiously at an icon with its patterns of dots over the metal.
Massive crash
The A34 was shut southbound today because a car transporter went through the crash barrier and right onto the grass by a rising slope over beyond the far side of the other carriageway. It met a van as it went I hear.
We missed this by 15/20 minutes. Do I drive more slowly because of this? Keep my distance more? Pump up my tyres more often?
The people I was due to see this morning had been hoping I was ok. So these drives day after day cause anxiety to others. I can't do anything differently apart from moving house to Kidlington for the next 2 1/2 years. That might be healthier.

Badminton on the front lawn - Videos of artists talking
Badminton
http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/inshaw-the-badminton-game-t03189
This used to be on a particular wall in the Tate. It was just there, I don't remember looking at it carefully ever. I just walked past it and liked it as I walked past. No trying hard.
We are back to playing badminton in the late afternoon when it is cloudy and there is no wind. The birds sing happily around us. The grass is slightly damp. Mainly I play in thick socks, just in case I stand on an acacia twig or a bird poop. It is out in nature after all.

I particularly enjoy watching and listening to people discussing what they are passionate about. It's all true, nothing made up or hard to understand, just how things are for them. I don't have to read between the lines.
